The beginning
This place Australia !
Imagine if you will that the government sends you on an all expenses paid cruise to the other side of the world how would you feel about that?
Some of us would be saying "You Beauty"
Others would be saying "What's the catch"
For a group of people that sailed through the heads of what's to become Sydney Harbour the choice was made for them and they were not happy.
The date January 26 1788 and the group were a mixture of convicts, soldiers, sailors and free settlers plus the assortment of animals which sailed into an unknown land far away from the one they had called home.
The First Fleet as it known sailed into the harbour and sailed into history for when they landed in Sydney Cove little did they know that from shaky beginnings of what their camp would become.
The first few weeks and months were tough strange creatures , strange plants hot summers with bushfires and natives with spears . Food shortages a place that was so far removed from what they were used to it is amazing that people survived .
Survive they did I can only imagine if it was me that had been sentenced to transportation for life as convict to an unknown land . Would I be able to cope? Let alone survive the six month voyage in less then ideal conditions ,life in the late 18th & early 19th century Sydney was completely different then it is today.
No WiFi ,Internet , Tv , Mobile phones , Flushing toilets and all the trappings of what we call modern life today.
It was just a camp in a harsh enviroment of people struggling to survive it is not easy to put myself in their shoes but I can only appreciate what Sydney has become from such humble beginnings .
Think of where you are living now! Imagine what it was like 100 years ago, 200 even 1000 years ago ,time is something that we cannot truly comprehend.
We think that what is around us has always been like that but that is not the case life is always constantly moving forward for if it stops it dies.
Every country has a beginning and a past which determines the country today.
Do you know your country's history ?
