Most of the population is on the coastal areas little wonder Australians live are shaped by the sea the summer days of going to the beach are a way of life. Australia also has one the highest rates of skin cancer in the world the price of our love of the beach hopefully there will be a cure one day meanwhile if you have fair skin take care in the sun.

THE BULL ANT The Bull Ant is one you do not want to have joining your picnic  for they are on mean nasty creature very, very aggressive they are no matter how big you are they will stand up to you and some species can jump onto you if you get close enough the one pictured below known as the jumping jack or Bulldog ant. There are about 94 different species of the Bull Ant throughought Australia and some of them have the most toxic venom in the insect world . People have died after being stung due to severe allergic reactions from the venom some like myself are fortunate or unfortunate  depending  on what perspective you look at it that on being stung we experienced extreme pain. A bush remedy is to rub broken onto the sung are which sorts it out to the other extreme one would need an Epi pen to prevent an anaphylactic reaction and some people have gone into cardiac arrest after being stung. Yep it is one mean ant the colonies are small with

THE JACKY LIZARD The Jacky Lizard is a member of the Dragon family of lizards in Australia one of the many species that inhabit the island continent. They can be found from central Queensland all the they way down the east coast to Victoria. The Jacky will seek shelter under logs and rocks and can be seen getting a bit of sun to get themselves moving being cold blooded creatures they are a bit sluggish till they get nice and warm then they can move pretty quick even running on two legs at times. The female can lay up to eight eggs in the summer and the temperature of the nest can determine the sex of the babies very hot temperatures  can produce more females while mild can produce males. The female can lay eggs within one year of hatching. Once the lizards hatch they are on their own against the world and there are many predators  out there  such as feral cats, dogs other lizards as well as rats and that is just the ground the

THE SNAKE Snakes are  a part of Australia and they range throughout the entire country as well as in the sea a few are poisonous and a few are not but can still give a nasty bite. Snakes do not go looking for people to bite they generally look for insects and small animals and eggs to feed on ,snakes love eggs in the case of the pythons the big ones can go for larger animals such as pigs , kangaroos and any other unlucky creature that falls in their grasp. Pythons kill by wrapping themselves around their prey and slowly suffocate by constricting the body blocking off the airways. Most people living in Australia never get to see a snake in their entire lives apart from the zoo but for many living in the bush and those living near the bush in the cities snakes can be seen and at times too close to homes for comfort. Generally snakes will avoid contact but if cornered they will attack so if you see a snake leave it well alone and it will leave you alone if there is one in you

HUNT FOR THE DROP BEAR

Image
Drop Bears are very elusive but dangerous creatures of the Australian Bush they are the larger and more vicious cousins of the Koala Bears. The reason why they are called Drop Bears is because they drop from the trees onto their prey whether human or animal once they drop on you they tear you to shreds nasty creatures. They inhabit most parts of Australia and there many different species of the creatures hard to find and film. Creatures of myth they are

Mick Angelhere's Australia ( Sydney Harbour Bridge)

Image
Sydney Harbour Bridge the most iconic landmark of Sydney known all over the world and known as the Coathanger. The bridge was designed by John Bradfield who also oversaw the building of the bridge which was began in 1924 and finished in 1932. The Harbour finally connected the city to the North shore after over a century of various punts and ferries used to carry  people and cars across the harbour. The bridge in its present form was almost never built because the New south Wales government wanted something a little smaller and less costly to build. However Bradfield stuck to his guns and convinced the government of the day that the bridge was needed for Sydney thus we have the bridge we see today. It came at a cost many homes and business were cleared away to make way for the construction as for compensation there wasn't any during the construction 16 men lost their lives work safety practices were a bit lax in those days. Finally the Bridge was opened by the New South Wale

Sugar Cane The sugar cane in Australia is mostly grown in Queensland and a small part of the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales. In the old days long past the sugar cane was harvested by hand by men using very large machetes to cut the cane a very hot , tiring and dangerous job, dangerous because of the snakes that like to hang around in the sugar cane. The sugar cane fields are set alight to clear all the rubbish as well as the snakes after the fire died down in went in the harvesters to begin cutting away needless to say some of them were bitten by snakes and spiders none too happy about their cosy home being burnt down . Not to mention the odd occasion someone would manage to slice an arm  or leg off either someone else's body part or their own , oops sorry about that you can hear them say. The work was done in a very hot and humid environment one had to be tough to work in the sugar cane fields tough men and women in a tough country . Now days they use mac

SYDNEY THE MODERN CITY Sydney a city that grew from less than humble beginnings of a ragtag collection of convicts, soldiers, sailors and free settlers living in tents in the bush by the harbour . If all those men ,women and children who landed at what is now Sydney Cove back in 1788 on that warm January day what they think of it now if they could see Sydney now ? A thriving ,bustling modern city of the 21st century a far cry from the camp in the bush far away on the other side of the world did they ever dream that it end up looking like this?             Sydney Cove How Big Do You Dream?
